UK Intakes: When Can You Start?

Pick the UK start month that fits your results, your finances and your readiness.

Why Study in the UK?

Kerala families rarely ask only whether the UK is a good country to study in. They ask how long the degree will take, what the full cost will be, and what it can lead to afterwards. The UK answers all three: most master’s degrees take one year, so you pay for less time abroad, universities are recognised worldwide, and the Graduate Route gives you a defined period to work or look for work after you finish. Here is what that means for you.

World-Class Universities, Global Careers

Gain a respected qualification from top UK institutions and open doors to international career paths.

Post Study Work Opportunities

After most bachelor’s and master’s degrees, the Graduate Route lets you work or look for work in the UK for 18 months (applications from 1 January 2027).

Courses Linked to In Demand Skills

Pick a programme in a field where UK employers actively hire, so your degree points toward real jobs.

Pathway to Permanent Residency

A degree followed by a skilled job can lead to a UK work visa and, over the years, settlement, depending on the rules in force at that time.

Earn While You Learn

Part time work within your visa limits, usually 20 hours a week in term time, builds UK experience and eases daily expenses.

Extensive Program Options

From business to health sciences, there is a course for most profiles, including one year master’s degrees that save a full year of fees and rent.

Support Beyond the Classroom

Hola World supports students post-arrival with resumes, internships, career advice, and global community engagement opportunities.

Since many UK offers hinge on an English score, Hola Language Lab gets you test ready before you submit your application.

Admission requirements

Every UK university sets its own entry rules, and they change by course and level. Go through the points below early so you know what to prepare. Your counsellor will confirm the exact requirements for your chosen course before you apply.

Class 12 marksheets for a bachelor’s course, or degree transcripts for a master’s, at the level your course asks for.

An IELTS, PTE or TOEFL score at your university’s required level. A few universities accept other proof, which your counsellor will confirm.

A passport that stays valid through your course and visa period.

Funds for tuition and living costs, held in your or your parents’ account for at least 28 days before you apply.

The official reference number a licensed UK sponsor university issues once you accept an offer. Your visa application depends on it.

A personal statement (a Statement of Purpose for master’s courses) and academic references support most UK applications.

Applicants from India need a tuberculosis test result from an approved clinic before applying for the visa.

UK Student Visa Steps for Indian Applicants

The UK student visa follows a fixed order, and a slip in an early step, such as funds not held for the full 28 days, can delay everything after it. These four steps take you from offer to decision, so you and your parents always know what comes next.

  1. Get your CAS

Accept the university offer, clear any deposit or condition, and wait for your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies.

  2. Line up your funds

The required living money, plus any tuition not yet paid, must sit in the account for 28 days before you apply. We review the bank or sponsor papers first.

  3. Apply online

Fill in the form on the official UK government site, pay the visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge, and book your biometrics slot.

  4. Give biometrics and await the decision

You can apply up to six months before the course begins, and most decisions for applicants in India arrive in about three weeks.

Officers also assess whether you are a genuine student, so you should be able to explain why this course and this university. We rehearse this with you well before you apply. Fees and rules change often, so your counsellor works from the latest official figures on your application date.

What a UK Degree Really Costs

Parents usually ask about money first, so here is a general guide before any course is chosen. On your free consultation we turn it into a personal estimate.

Cost of Studying

Tuition Fees

Fees depend on the course and the university. Lab and clinical courses usually cost more than classroom courses, and a one year master’s trims the total against a two year programme.

Visa and Setup Costs

Your first bills include the student visa fee, the health surcharge for every year of your visa, an English test and a university deposit. These official amounts change, so we confirm them before you pay.

Scholarships and Discounts

Merit awards, county scholarships and early payment discounts can take a real bite out of the bill.

Cost of Living

Rent and Food

Rent is the largest monthly item. Halls of residence, shared houses and rented rooms are common, and home cooked meals keep food spending low.

Travel and Utilities

Student travel cards, phone, internet and energy bills form a steady monthly spend, and sharing a house splits most of them.

London Versus Other Cities

London is clearly dearer than cities such as Sheffield, Coventry, Newcastle or Belfast. Studying outside London can lower both your monthly spend and the funds you must show for the visa.

Popular scholarships for
indian students

Several UK scholarships are open to Indian applicants, and their deadlines often fall months before the course starts. These are a good place to begin your search.

Frequently asked questions

The best consultant is the one who tells you the truth, not the one who promises the most. Look for certified counsellors, clear advice on costs and visa rules, a visa record you can verify, and support after you land. Hola World is a PIER certified, Kerala based team with offices in Changanassery and Kochi, and we counsel families from Kottayam, Thrissur, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Alappuzha and beyond over WhatsApp or video call. Your first consultation is free, so you can compare us with anyone before you decide.
It depends on your course, university and city, so no single number is honest. Your total includes tuition, living costs, the student visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge. For your visa you must also show living funds for 28 days: £1,529 a month for London and £1,171 a month outside London, for up to nine months. These rise to £1,570 and £1,203 for applications from 30 November 2026. Choosing a university outside London and a one year master's often brings the total down. We prepare a personal budget for you before you apply.
Most students on a degree level course can work up to 20 hours a week in term time and full time outside term time, subject to visa conditions, if their visa conditions allow it. A part time job helps with daily expenses, but it should not be your plan for paying tuition. UK visa rules expect you to show your funds upfront, so please plan your finances with your family first.
Most bachelor's and master's graduates can apply for the Graduate Route, which lets you work or look for work without a job offer. The stay is two years if you apply by 31 December 2026, and 18 months if you apply on or after 1 January 2027. PhD graduates get three years. The Graduate Route does not by itself lead to permanent residency, so we also explain what could come next, such as the Skilled Worker route, before you choose a course.
Yes. A full time taught master's in the UK is usually one year, and it is a complete and respected degree. It also saves you a year of fees and living costs compared with a two year programme. UK degrees are widely accepted by Indian employers. If you plan to apply for a government job or a PhD in India, check whether an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities is needed, and we will guide you on the documents.
September is the main intake, with the widest choice of courses and the most scholarships, but it is also the most competitive. January suits students who need more time for an English test, documents or funds, though fewer courses are available. A few universities also offer a May intake. We choose your intake by working backwards from your marks, test dates and budget, not from a deadline panic.
You will need your CAS from the university, a valid passport, proof of funds held for 28 days, your English test result if required, and a TB test certificate from an approved clinic. You also pay the visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge online. Most decisions for applications from India take around three weeks. We check every document before you submit, because missing or unclear papers are a common cause of delay.
For most bachelor's and taught master's students, no. Dependants are generally allowed only for postgraduate research courses such as a PhD, and for some government funded scholars. If you are a working professional planning a family move, tell your counsellor at the start so we can suggest options that fit your situation. We will be honest if a plan will not work.
Most Kerala families use a mix of savings, scholarships and an education loan. Awards such as GREAT Scholarships (at least £10,000 for selected one year master's courses) and Chevening exist, and many universities offer their own, but deadlines are early and competition is real. We shortlist scholarships that match your profile and help you prepare the documents your bank asks for, so your funding is ready before your visa application.
No honest consultant can guarantee a visa, because the final decision is always made by the UK Home Office. What we can promise is careful preparation: the right course, a clear and genuine study plan, correct documents, and honest advice if your profile needs strengthening first. We have maintained a 100% visa success record in 2022, 2023 and 2024, and we are happy to explain exactly how we work.
